The Omaha Baseball Stadium becomes “TD AMERITRADE Park
Omaha”
Omaha-based financial services firm secures naming rights to
new Omaha stadium to host college baseball and other community
events
OMAHA, Neb., June 10, 2009 – In 2011, TD AMERITRADE Park
Omaha will usher in a new era in sports, entertainment and community
development for the city of Omaha.
The Metropolitan Entertainment & Convention Authority (MECA)
today announced that TD AMERITRADE Holding Corporation (NASDAQ:
AMTD) has secured the naming rights to Omaha’s new downtown
baseball stadium, which is currently under construction. The 20-year
naming rights and services agreement is valued at approximately
$20 million over the duration of the contract.
For MECA and the city of Omaha, this agreement with TD AMERITRADE
will be key to funding the estimated $120 million needed to build
the new facility. The new facility will host teams competing for
the NCAA Men’s College World Series, an Omaha tradition
for 60 years, thanks to an agreement reached last year between
the city, the NCAA, College World Series Inc. of Omaha, and MECA
to continue the relationship for another 25 years.
For TD AMERITRADE, which is headquartered in Omaha, pursuing
naming rights for the stadium was a great opportunity.
“TD AMERITRADE was founded in Omaha more than 34 years
ago,” said Fred Tomczyk, president and chief executive officer
at TD AMERITRADE. “More of our associates live and work
in this city than in any other location in the country. We understand
what this new stadium means to the city, and we want help make
it a reality.
“College baseball represents many of the core values we
promote at TD AMERITRADE, namely integrity, teamwork and professionalism,”
Tomczyk continued. “We also share the value of education,
which for us is a gateway for people to more confidently pursue
their financial goals, just as for many student athletes, athletics
is the gateway to a better life through a college education.”
“One of our top priorities was to secure naming rights
with an Omaha-based company, and we are very pleased to have reached
an agreement with TD AMERITRADE,” said Roger Dixon, president
and chief executive officer of MECA. “In addition to college
baseball, we expect to host a number of additional events, as
well as concerts, at TD AMERITRADE Park Omaha, bringing new entertainment
and economic benefits to our community.”
“The revenue generated from these naming rights is extremely
important to financing the new stadium, and we are thrilled that
TD AMERITRADE, a local company, has made this investment in our
community,” said Omaha Mayor Jim Suttle. “TD AMERITRADE
Park Omaha will serve as a key attraction for visitors to our
community and as a symbol of the development occurring in North
Downtown and throughout our city.”
“With construction underway and the commitment from TD
AMERITRADE, it is easier for College World Series fans, coaches
and athletes to envision what the future will look like,”
said Jack Diesing, president of College World Series of Omaha,
Inc. “We couldn’t be more excited. This event is about
creating a Fan Friendly atmosphere and an outstanding experience
for the student-athlete. We look forward to continuing the tradition
– and hopefully creating a few new ones along the way.”
TD AMERITRADE Park Omaha is expected to open in 2011. For more
